How does LanguaTalk work?
LanguaTalk is a great option to learn a foreign language. You can learn one (or more!) of the following 9 languages: Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Romanian, German, Dutch, Swedish, and Japanese.
LanguaTalk makes it easy for you to choose your tutor. You first need to select your fluency levels, goals, and budget.
Just to you know, all tutors charge individual rates. So, as tutors set their own prices, the cost for your lessons will depend on your teacher’s individual rates and the number of sessions you buy.
Lesson prices range from $10 to $60 per session.
Once you’ve narrowed down your search, you’ll be shown a selection of videos and biographies from tutors who may be a good fit for your learning needs.
If you can’t make up your mind because there are many good teachers, you can book a free 30-minute taster session with some of them so that you can be certain to choose the best one for you.
Once you’ve chosen your tutor, you’ll have personalized 1-on-1 video sessions and your tutor will develop a learning plan to meet your needs.
When you take lessons with a tutor, you can choose to book 1, 5, 10, or 20 lessons. The more sessions you book, the lower the price.
Sessions last 55 minutes and are conducted as a video call, either through Zoom or Skype.
LanguaTalk vs Italki
Italki is one of the best websites to find a tutor for the language you’re learning. LanguaTalk is very similar to Italki but has some advantages.
First of all, LanguaTalk provides more personalized support.
Also, it offers refunds while Italki does not at all. LanguaTalk has a 24-hour cancellation policy and 16% commission.
Setting availability and calendars is more intuitive than on Italki. Also, teachers don’t have to do anything when it comes to getting paid.
Their payments get sent automatically to their bank each month.
Italki has more tutors, but LanguaTalk is pickier so the level of professionalism and experience is a little higher on average. You’ll notice this when checking profile videos.
Italki has shorter lesson options.
When you book on Italki, after you book, tutors can accept or reject the booking. On LanguaTalk, a booking is a booking, making the process smoother.
If you’d like, you can read our Italki review too to get a better idea of this platform, which is a good alternative.

Is LanguaTalk safe?
LanguaTalk was founded in 2021 by co-founder Alex Redfern, so it is very new to the market.
Prior to LanguaTalk, Alex grew another site (Lingoci) to $1.3m in annual revenue (with no funding). Much of this growth came from student recommendations.
Lingoci actually runs purely on third-party apps, so he built LanguaTalk with a friend at Google.
LanguaTalk is very reliable. For instance, it will only accept approximately 10% of applications from potential tutors to ensure high-quality teaching.
All its tutors must also be native speakers of the language they are teaching and have some prior experience in teaching a language.
You can check this by looking at their profiles. This provides a real sense of the teacher’s level of experience, and on-site videos also give you an insight into their personalities.
Having this information is very important because it makes you feel like you’ll definitely learn with a very professional teacher.
Also, all payments are processed by Stripe, which provides additional peace of mind about the safety of your transactions.
