My thoughts

If you’re starting to learn a new language, you may have felt different experiences when studying.

In today’s post, we’re going to focus on the pros and cons of learning Italian.

Learning a new language

Learning a new language is always a great option!

Languages are powerful tools: think of them as keys to open new doors.

Learning a new language definitely makes you more open-minded. You end up seeing the world from a different perspective.

Learning a new language is also a bonus on your CV.

Just think this way: if you speak one language you have a certain amount of job opportunities.

If you speak two languages, that amount doubles.  If you speak three languages it triples, and so on.

So, you’re basically much more likely to get a job.

Also, when you learn a new language, your brain works really hard and, with time, becomes much more elastic and sensitive.

So, it’s a great exercise for your memory. In fact, your brain will be grateful for all that extra exercise when you get older.

What are the pros and cons of learning Italian?

You’ll be able to communicate with Italian speakers

Connecting and communicating with Italians in their native language is a privilege because speaking their language makes you grasp the subtilities of the Italian culture too.

It’ll be easier to learn other Romance languages

If you learn Italian, it will then be easier to learn other Romance languages such as Spanish, French, Catalan, and Portuguese.

This is because they share the same ancestor: Latin. So, they are similar in terms of sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary.

You’ll appreciate the Italian culture much better

If you like opera, you can understand the world’s most famous operas in their native language.

If you enjoy reading, you’ll be able to read a book in Italian. Reading a book in the original language is always much better than reading it translated.

You’ll also be able to enjoy Italian music, poetry, and art.

Also, Italy is the nation with the most UNESCO Heritage sites, so it is a great tourist destination!

You’ll appreciate the Italian food much better

We all love food and Italy is home to the best cuisine.

You will be able to enjoy their food as well as speak about it using the right words, intonation, and hand gestures.

You’ll be able to practice Italian with native speakers

Most Italians do not speak English, so if you move to Italy or have Italian friends, you will definitely be able to use Italian.

Also, Italians are very open to new learners.

Italian orthography and pronunciation are easy to learn

Italian is relatively easy to learn in terms of orthography and pronunciation, because (almost) every word is pronounced exactly how it is written. What you hear is what you write!
