Speechling Italian
Speechling is an educational non-profit with headquarters in California, USA.
Their mission is to make language study available to everyone in the world, regardless of financial situation.
Speechling uses a combination of AI and one-on-one coaching. You can learn words and expressions using AI technology on your laptop or mobile.
Additionally, you are given a tutor who will provide comments on recordings of your pronunciation. Other learning exercises include dictation, tests, and flashcards.
What’s wrong with Speechling
Because it is designed to help your listening and pronunciation, it is not the most efficient tool for beginners.
If you don’t already know some Italian, you might pick up new words and phrases, but you won’t understand why you are saying them because there are no grammar explanations.
Because the software is primarily about pronunciation, it will help you understand Italian native speakers. You hear the sentence being said, then you repeat it back. Moreover, some exercises require you to dictate what you hear.
But, since there are no speaking activities, Speechling will not train you in having conversations.
Speechling alternative for the Italian language
A great alternative if you’re a beginner is the course “Think in Italian”.
This course is based on the concept of spaced repetition, which means that at specific intervals, you’ll be asked to listen to and repeat specific words and patterns.
Everything is very intuitive, almost too simple to be true: it teaches you how to say things.
Variety and relevance coexist in harmony.
By hearing and repeating sentences that aren’t monotonous, you pick up pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar without even noticing it.
It’s a great course because it helps you to speak Italian fluently in a short time.
This course includes not only audio classes (Ripeti con me), but also short readings with slow audio (Leggi con me).
Both of these programs are created for students of all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced.
In addition to the audio classes, the website offers helpful and free lessons on Italian grammar because sometimes it’s just better to have things pointed out and explained.
Finally, because the courses are completely focused on Italy, you will not only learn common expressions and grammatical constructions but also learn how native Italian speakers speak in everyday situations.
