Coffee Break Italian
Coffee Break Italian is a podcast about learning Italian.
It consists of three seasons (one for each level: beginner, intermediate, and advanced); each season contains 40 audio lessons.
In each lesson, the Scottish host (Mark) talks to a native Italian speaker (Francesca) and a student.
The lessons are pretty short (about 15-20 minutes, which is a typical coffee break length) and deal with the main aspects of learning Italian in an engaging and interactive way.
All the podcasts are free, but if you want to access further resources, you can subscribe to the online courses. There is an online course for each season, and you can access bonus audio lessons, video lessons, and notes.
What’s Wrong with Coffee Break Italian
I find Coffee Break Italian an excellent platform to learn Italian as it gives you the opportunity to learn new words and phrases in an informal environment and at a decent pace.
Each topic is closely related to the previous one, so you will progress constantly and won’t feel overwhelmed by too much information.
However, I see there is not much room for speaking practice. You learn the most useful sentences to communicate with locals, but you won’t actively apply them.
And I believe that speaking practice is essential if you want to learn Italian.
A Coffee Break Italian Alternative for the Italian Language
Think In Italian audio course “Ripeti con me” is an excellent alternative to Coffee Break Italian if you want to improve your speaking skills.
The course is structured in a series of audio lessons where you listen to some sentences from a native Italian speaker and repeat them after a short time interval.
This approach is based on spaced repetition and active recall techniques and stimulates your brain to actively repeat what you hear.
By recalling the information you hear (the sentence), you’ll easily stick this information into your long-term memory.
Ripeti con me is one of the best courses if you want to learn how to speak Italian for real, as it is based on the active engagement of the student and constantly prompts you to speak.
